Herrick District Library is Moving to Paperless Alerts

Beginning May 1, 2013, overdue notices and billing notices will only be available via email alert.  Paper notices will no longer be sent through the postal mail system beginning May 1.

To receive email alerts, follow this list of simple instructions:
1.  Go to and click “Email Notification” above the blue bar
2. Submit the first five digits of your library card number (21309 for Herrick District Library cards)
3. Click on the button to “Subscribe”
4. Complete the information at the top of the waiver
5. Scroll to the bottom and complete the remaining information
6. Click the button “I Agree”
7. Look forward to receive detailed emails regarding item holds, approaching due dates and overdue materials

You can opt out at any time. Additionally, you can rest assured that your email address will remain confidential and will not be distributed to parties outside the library system
HDL email alerts are a courtesy notification, each patron remains responsible to return items by their due dates in the event of a system malfunction.

Billing information will only be available one of two ways beginning May 1:
  • Through subscribing to email alerts
  • Clicking on My Account online at /
*  To avoid issues with spam filters, we ask that you add our domains — and — to your "safe senders" list, in order to ensure that our email messages reach you as requested.

Looking for even more convenience? You can now receive library text alerts on your mobile phone via the new SMS Alerts Service.
Once you sign up, you will receive a text message when:
• You have a hold item ready for pickup
• You have materials that are due soon
• You have materials that are overdue

To opt in to this service, follow these simple instructions:
1. Go to and log in to your account.
2. Click on the “Opt In/Out for SMS Messages” link.
3. Enter your Mobile Phone Number
4. Check the box to “Opt In” to text alerts.
5. Review the Terms and Conditions and “Submit” the form.
This is a free service, but standard carrier message charges apply.
Text messages will be brief and general, they will not contain information about the specific item(s) on hold, soon due, or overdue.  Also, please note that each cell phone number may only be used once (different family members cannot use the same phone number for multiple library card numbers). Additional information, including answers to frequently asked questions, can be found here.
As always, our staff members are happy to help with any questions you may have.
